- Udu pot drums originated among the Ibo people of West Africa in the area that is now Nigeria, and are found throughout the diaspora, primarily Brazil.
- Not very loud, so low annoyance factor, and often favoured by experimental percussionists
- It's an expressive instrument with a deep bass (like Indian tabla) from one hole, and mid tone 'wow' from the other hole
- The body can also be played, though that style is more associated with the Indian Ghattam
