LP Chocalhos are extremely loud shakers used to sustain the rhythm of the Bateria of an Escola de Samba. A lightweight aluminum frame with handles houses 15 sets of galvanized aluminum jingles for a trashy, cutting sound with incredible projection. This is classed as a SMALL Chocalho.

For on the road, for small hands, for compact baterias, for young sambistas - a mini chocalho for anyone looking for a smaller, less loud and less heavy rocar. The sound is the same as a regular chocalho produces, but not as loud and smaller in its size. The aluminium frame is standard and has two lateral handles. Some sambistas like to put some fabric around the handles for more comfort when playing it, especially over longer periods. Zinc-plated steel sheet is a very popular material for Samba instruments. On the one side it is cheap and rustical, on the other side it sounds fantastic. The typical and authentic 'dirty' and dry sound is the undisputet favourite of many sambistas. The only drawback might be the abrasion which is typical for this material and makes dirty fingers. True lovers of zinc sheet sound will accept this fact without hesitating.

Rocars or samba shakers with jingles come in two main forms, either with a metal frame with jingles mounted within, or with a wooden handle with the jingles mounted outwards

Metal frames rocars tend to have more jingles and are louder but heavier. They can also tend to have a shorter lifespan as you are basically hurling metal against metal with great force

Rocars are much louder than the ganza and can hold their own and cut across the drumming section but the technique requires more precision
